    (I figured why not start a thread for people looking to golf while traveling so here we are)

    If you find yourself in Maine, I highly recommend Spring Meadows Golf Club. It’s a course in Gray, Maine built by four brothers on a beautiful wetland area. The course is very well designed with a variety of holes that show off many different features including a par three with a valley, a drivable downhill par 4, and a par 5 with rows of wetland. All of these lead to a challenging, but interesting play through that leaves you wanting more. As a cherry on top, it was voted the best New England Course in 2021.

    When trying say which is my favorite, it is very difficult. I have been blessed to have played some great courses and have not found very many that I did not like. Maybe narrowing it down to top ten would be more fair starting here in my home town of Charleston, SC. All of these are very worthy courses and very enjoyable to play.

    Stay on the property. They have special packages for those who are staying there. Good food and you have the beaches and the sunsets are awesome. Check it out. =)

    I’ve made reservations thru the resort for the week of Jan. 23-28. Playing all 5 courses. Can’t wait. The Ocean Course is the second day i’m there.

    The Sanctuary is absolutely fabulous and they have a shuttle service to take you to the course. Also, you can store your clubs with them and they transport them to which ever Kiawah course you play.

    My favorite course is TPC Las Vegas, it's just one of those courses that fits the eye, at least for me. Another that I really enjoyed was TPC Harding Park. I played it about a year before the PGA. I also love my home course, Cartersville Country Club, tough but fair golf with lightning fast greens. This time of year is really tough though, the Bermuda rough is almost US Open-like in its thickness, so if you're having a tough day off the tee, it wears you out by the end of the round hacking out of it.

    Similar to Chuck, but I can't even list my top favorites in any real order. It would be kind of like saying which of my kids were my favorite. There are unique features that make them all special so yes, I have a handful that I would call "top tier" courses. As for a travel destination, by far my favorite is Bandon. That collection of courses and the full experience in one location does it for me. This will be my ninth year in a row and it still never gets old.

    Have to say the Ocean course is my favorite because I have played it the most, next to playing my home course. Also where I shot one of my lowest rounds, 77 from the Blue tees back in 1997. I use to work as a volunteer for all the major tournaments that came thru the resort and one of the perks was a free found of golf after the tournament, plus the superintendent was a golfing buddy. He retired from there a number of years ago and they no longer offer that perk to the volunteers starting with the last PGA in 2012. =)

    I think I need to plan another trip to Australia, but make change itinerary next time and head to Melbourne.

    My favourite course is a private course in Winnipeg, Manitoba is a private course. It is a 27 hole course with 9 holes designed by McKenzie, another 9 designed by Donald Ross and the third 9 designed by Harvey Wood. It is a great play. Another course that I really enjoy playing when I’m in Vegas is the Las Vegas Country Club a great fun play.

    When Australia reopens borders, I strongly recommend visiting Victoria and Tasmania if you want to have a golf experience like no other.

    Before moving to Australia in 2016 I had only heard about Alister MacKenzie's Royal Melbourne, however, after 5 years living here I must say that in Australia there is a wide array of golf courses, which suits the most exquisite of tastes.

    There are only a handful of places around the world where you can find so many top golf courses clustered together. I am referring to Melbourne's Metropolitan area which includes the Sandbelt and Mornington Peninsula.

    What an awesome list of courses!! I've never been on on any of them, but I've seen some of them in pictures only.
    Anyway, while I was going through your list, I was almost sure you would include Tara Iti :-) It's just one of the courses that appeals to me the way it looks in the picture- Tom Doak, I think.

    Sorry for the late reply. Although I have never played golf in New Zealand, I have heard wonderful stories about Tara Iti's unique course design. If I organise a golf trip to New Zealand, I would visit Tara Iti and Cape Kidnappers.

    Great list of courses up there and top notch to say the least. Well done, everyone!

    There's a couple of courses or so listed up there that I've also played and they're something I don't or can't get to as much as I'd like to, but right now the Royal County Down in Northern Ireland comes to mind with some good memories.

    As for the local favorites, I've been visiting some of the local courses around me including some munis and down the Coachella Valley. The little course in Indio comes to mind right away called Heritage Palms Golf Club has some awesome greens keeping most the time. It's just fun.

    Being a Duke fan it is hard to admit this but my favorite course in my area is UNC Finley. Always in nice shape and every club and type of shot is needed...at least by me who has not broken 90 there (yet!).
    I do change out my Blue Devil headcover when I play there though...don't want to cause any trouble.

    My favorite course is Leopard Creek in Malelane, South Africa. The design is great but the wildlife and what you could see on the golf course (snakes, monkeys, giraffe, and a potential leopard)

    If you ever the chance to you must go and it boarders the Kruger national park where you can see Africa's big 5!

    The Dye course at Barefoot Resort and Tidewater in Myrtle Beach are 2 of my favorite tracks that I've played. I haven't gotten to travel and play as much as I'd like but I will be doing more of it in the future.

    Both are worthy courses. Myrtle has some great courses as does Murrells Inlet. Prefer Dye over Tidewater. I live down the road from MB in Mt Pleasant and just do not go up there to play. Too much traffic.

    Harbour Town at Hilton Head is on my radar this fall. We work down there every year for the RBC Heritage Tournament Pro/Ams, but just never find the time to go and play the course.

    Most favorite private course is Sebonack in the Hamptons, NY - great layout along the Peconic Bay on Long Island. Public access course would be either Oaks at TPC San Antonio or Harbour Town in Hilton Head.

    - Tobacco Road
    - Barefoot Dye (Didn't get a complete round. Got rained out after 8 holes but I'll be back.)

    Of course my bucket list is pretty much like every golfers. Pebble, Sawgrass, Augusta, etc..... but I'd really like to play Wolf Creek for some reason.

    I played a great course in North Myrtle Beach, (near Cherry Grove), The Surf Club. Nice layout with amazing greens.... the smoothest and fastest I have ever played on. This is a Myrtle hidden gem due to privacy, but it is playable with the right package provider.
    I love Myrtle Beach area, but picking a favorite course is just too difficult because there are so many great tracks in that golf mecca. Tidewater, King's North, Wild Wing Avocet, all the Barefoot courses, then in the south you have Caledonia, True Blue, Pawley's Plantation, Prestwick, River Club, Heritage, etc. It is always a great trip no matter which tracks you play.

    1. Laurel Valley (host of 1975 Ryder Cup and 2005 Senior PGA Championship)
    2. Sunnehanna CC (home of the Sunnehanna Amateur)
    3. Latrobe Country Club (Arnie's home course)
    4. Indian Lake Golf Club (Arnie's first design)
    5. Mystic Rock at Nemacolin (host of the 84 Lumber Classic)

    ... and of course, Oakmont is on my bucket list!

    If you plan on staying in Charleston and call for a tee time it could cost around $400 plus and if you play before noon you have to take a caddy on the Ocean Course, that would be another $100 plus tip. They have other great courses; Turtle Point, Osprey Point and Cougar Point. Oak Point is off the property which is an ok course and has never been one of my favorites. The Ocean Course is by far my favorite with Osprey coming in second.
    I would recommend staying on the property with one of the packages and getting the opportunity to play a number of their courses to include the Ocean Course. Cougar Point is a Gary Player course, fun and short. After playing the Ocean Course you would want a relaxing course.

    If you want some good local reasonably priced food off the Kiawah Island, recommend the Stono Market & The Tomato Shed. 842 Main Road, Johns Island, 843-559-9999. Kiawah has great beaches and the sunsets are awesome. Hope this is not TMI. With all the traffic between Charleston and Kiawah, I would recommend staying on the Island. It is about a forty minute drive to the Ocean Course from downtown Charleston. Check it out. =)

    My list of all time favorite courses that I have played Kingsbarn, Jupiter Hills Muirfield Seminole, Old Course St.Andrews , Valhalla, Royal Troon, Firestone South, Old Marsh, Turnburry. Also played The Ocean Course at Kiawiah with Pete Dye. But my favorite will always be the 9 hole public course that I grew up on here in Northeast Ohio, Westville Lake

    My #1 favorite is Whitehawk Ranch north of Truckee, CA
    #2 is the Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ
    #3 is Edgewood Tahoe in Stateline, NV
    I've played a handful of the big name courses and, while they were a great experience, I'll take a day at any of my 3 favorites every time.
