I was a purist for a long time and refused to buy into the lasers or GPS. Finally got the laser due to some temporary greens last year at my club, and it was a great move. There are many times when I still use the sprinkler heads, but many many times where I'm off the beaten path and having the laser saves me from guessing and ending up well off in terms of yardage. I have a Bushnell V3 and like it very much. I'm amazed how long the battery has lasted.
