  1. I was an early convert from Pro V1x to AVX from its original test-market phase right up until last week. I gained quite a bit of driver distance and even a few yards extra on iron shots with the AVX. For my game that was worth giving up the approach-shot stopping power and high driver ball flight that had made Pro V1x my long-time favorite ball.

When I saw the yellow 2019 Pro V1x in my club's pro shot I decided to grab and box and give them a go. After three rounds I'm here to tell you the 2019 version gives up nothing at all in terms of driver distance compared to AVX. Same extra control and driver hang time I've always liked, now with extra distance and my preferred yellow cover.

The only downside is the cover of the newest Pro V1x is not nearly as bulletproof as AVX or as the 2013/2015/2017 Pro V1x. The first ball got groove-marked after about 27 holes, the second one only took 6 holes. And I'm not talking cart path or tree damage. I think the trouble comes from hitting long-ish bunker shots but seems to me I'm back to the pre-2013 days of having to retire a ball after each round.
