Best fit for wedges?

  1. Hello everyone,

I did a club fitting session last year as I was looking for new irons and I ended up buying a combo set of 714 AP1 (4-5-6) and AP2 (7-8-9-PW-GW). Needless to say that I absolutely love my new irons and to my satisfaction my game improved a lot since I started using them! :)

I was thinking about renewing my wedges also since they are way shorter and that I have a 6 degrees difference between my AP2 GW and my SW (56). I had in mind to go with: - a 54 that would cover a distance gap I have in my bag that would somehow feel like another AP2 club - a 58 wedge that would work more like a SW or a club I could use to chip and do flop shot with around the green.

I usually play on various courses so I would probably need something that could be working on both hard and soft courses.

Would anyone be able to provide suggestion on what I should looking at in terms of bounce and grind for the 2 wedges I need? Any suggestions are welcome as I could be wrong with what I have in mind! :)

    Thank you!

The best advice would be to go see a Titleist PGA professional and get a wedge fitting done. They will find the right gap fit and bounce and grind for your game. If you are around the Kansas City area let me know I can get you set up.
  3. Thanks for the advise. However, i am trying to avoid going again to a fitting session to save some $$ :)
  4. 9/10 you ask for advice you will be told to get fitted.

Titleist is doing Wedge fittings on Thursdays and there is not cost involved. You need the fitting. Check this site to see if they are in your area. I went Thursday. Too many variables to advise you and you do not want bad advice from non certified fitters.
  6. The cost of buying the wrong spec will be higher than a fitting :)
Having recently gone through an in-depth fitting process for wedges, i'm pretty convinced that nobody can truly advise you without seeing you in person.
How you deliver the club has a huge impact on the grind you go for, and that isn't captured in anything you can put on a forum.
My own experience has been going to SM6 50° gap F grind, 54° S grind and 60° M grind, but that was after extensive testing and playing with them. The 54° was the tough one for me (50° F and 60° M made sense pretty quickly), and I flipped between F, S and M for quite a while.
Get fit ... well worth it in the end :)
