    Tom Doak is going to design a new #10 at Pinehurst, slated to open in late spring 2024.

    I wonder if this going to be on the site that was The Pit Golf Course. Pinehurst bought that property quite a long time ago with the intention of making it part of the resort courses.

    Yes, the course will be on the land where The Pit was located.

    Reading a few other articles it is the old Pit Course , I remember playing the Pit and it was a bear of a course but had great villas on site .

    The plan back when the resort bought this property over 10 years ago was to build a village round the course with resort rooms and shops. Kind of a mini version of the area near the main clubhouse. I would expect there to at least be some on-site rooms near #10, maybe more. This area is really taking off. I just moved here in September.

    I am happy to see another new course that will be marketed to guests as this will free up more rounds for PCC on 2, 4 and 8.

    Yep, looking forward to playing again on the former site of The Pit. It was a challenging and fun course to play. I’m not sure why it went under.....economic downturn maybe ?.
    Anyway. looking forward to another great Pinehurst course.

    Would be a great trip for a TTI return to Pinehurst in 2024. Play it 2 and 4. I just love this resort, my favorite of all we visit. They just make you feel like family and at home.

    Yep. Great atmosphere. We go down every once in awhile just to have lunch, and walk around. Actually considered it for a retirement spot, but my wife does not play, so there wouldn’t be much for her to do.

    I have told my wife that god forbid anything ever happened to her I would pack up and move to the Pinehurst area. It would put me closer my son and grandkids . I do rules officiating with Carolinas golf assn,and being in that area would allow me more opportunities

    An added benefit is if you volunteer for starter or marshal duties you get free GOLf

    I am a mid-50's North Carolina native and live in the Raleigh area and I must say we have great golf here. Outside of maybe 2 weeks in January or February, you can golf year-round.

    Are there reasonable alternatives to staying at the onsite hotels, or does price make it a no brainer? The packages that include dinner might not help me if the meals offered aren't gluten-free.

    If you want to play 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, or 9, you have to stay at the resort. The other courses (1, 3, 5, and the Cradle ) you can stay anywhere and get a tee time by calling the pro shop 24 hours ahead of the day you want to play. But there are so many other great courses in the area outside of the resort that you really can't go wrong. Pine Needles, Mid-South, Talamore, etc. and up the road is Tobacco Road.

    You might need to stay a night to get onto 2 and or 4. But with all the great courses in the area (Pine Needles, Tobacco Road), there is also no shortage of hotels in the area at a lower price point.
    If you do inquire about staying at Pinehurst properties, I’m sure they would accommodate your dinner diet needs. The breakfast buffet has many gluten free options but the biscuits and gravy would be off limits.
