  1. Can anyone give me some info or recommendations for private clubs in the Savannah, Ga. area? Thanks

  2. It will be very difficult to beat the Landings club and their 6 golf courses! We have been members for a few years and absolutely love it.

If you enjoy traditional courses with challenging greens, I would consider The Savannah Golf Club. It is documented as the oldest Golf Club in North America, established in 1794. They have been playing at the current location since 1899 complete with confederate fortifications. Donald Ross redesigned the course in the early 1900's and the course was recently restored to the original Ross layout. I was a Member, but I no longer live in Savannah. Short but very challenging.

Did a lot of research in 1990 for a golf tournament I was putting on for our International Professional Organization, 1991 International Conference in Charleston, SC. As the tournament director, wrote a number of articles enticing golfers from around the world to play and found this interesting fact regarding golf in Charleston, SC.

1786 – 1st American golf club and 1st golf club outside the UK, the South Carolina Golf Club, Charleston, forms, where they play on Harleston Green, the 1st golf course in America. (Even though it was not an eighteen hole course). Harleston Green was founded in 1786. The first golf in the US was played here as early as the 1743, thanks to some shipping merchants with Scottish “links” bringing their love for golf to the greatest city on earth.

Are you moving or just looking to play?

The Hilton Head area isn't too far.
  6. We are considering moving to Savannah. We are going to look at Savannah Quarters, but would also like some info on other privates, as well.
  7. We looked at Savannah Quarters, and really liked the neighborhood, but did not like the town. We toured Savannah on May 5th, and it was 93 degrees. We decided the weather would be too hot and humid for us in the summer.
  8. Although that was unseasonably warm for us if you don't care for heat and humidity you made the right call! Savannah is known for the air you can wear!
