Travelling to Mexico in June and this will be my 2nd time playing golf there previously played iberostar playa paraisio in 2019 fantastic course.

My question is and I expect that some people here have played ‘el camaleon’ what are your experiences and any shared tips, info or advice?.

    Thanks

Loved it. I stayed in Cancun and the golf course actually provided transportation as part of the green fee so I just had to tip the driver. Very well maintained course as you probably have seen on TV when they host the PGA. Fairways were pretty wide but you can still get in trouble if you get a little wild as it usually is windy there. Of course, coming from Scotland you should already be familiar with playing in the wind. Have fun!

El Camaleon is terrific. The cenote on the opening hole (which plays at #7 during the PGA Tour event) really sets the tone for a different kind of day.

The canals that meander through the property are crossed by unique bridges and I found the design (and especially the green complexes) to be top-tier.

Depending on occupancy at partner hotels and resorts, they sometimes do two shotgun starts each day (one at 8:30ish and the other at 2:00ish). That means a very busy practice area before the round. I would call ahead and ask if this will be the case and, if so, request a #1 start.

    Hope you enjoy your trip!

I was able to get there on april 2021. It was awesome, they are top notch in their service. Sent a car to the resort i was at and brought me back. I had a blast, my wife drove the cart and had some drinks. She loved all the wildlife roaming around. I am very glad I did it.

Worth every Peso. Greens were in great shape when I played. Like others have said, generous fairways. You will not be disappointed. Keep an eye out for the iguanas if your ball goes astray, I almost stepped on a large one looking for my ball on 12.

Enjoy your round and time in Mexico.
  6. Played there a couple weeks ago. We stayed at Hilton PDC, and Mayakoba picked us up in a private car with the nicest driver. Grade A service before even getting to Mayakoba. When you get there, they treat you like royalty, especially on the range. There were a few kids working the range, and anytime I set a club down, they ran over to clean it. I went on a Tuesday at noon and there was, at most, 10 groups out on the course.

Course itself was amazing. The scenery on every hole takes your breath away, especially on the beach holes. The cenote on #7 (it plays as #7 all the time now, I believe) is one of the coolest things you'll ever see on a golf course. Plan to take some time to explore a little inside of it if nobody is on your tail. Greens were wildly pure and the beach sand was beautiful to play out of.

If I had one piece of advice, I would say take your wife/gf/partner with you (if they don't golf). My wife rode with me and I didn't realize she was taking pictures on every hole. If she weren't there, I might only have a couple scenery photos, lol.

    Thanks for the replies:-

WOW It all started when I was picked up from hotel by the driver in the liveried van,

Greeted at the door and was welcomed in such a manner they made me feel a million dollars.

I was a single player and was paired up with a lad from Colorado

On the driving range my club was taken from me and cleaned before it was put back in the bag.

We were not in any hurry and let a few groups through just to take it in is was the best golf experience I can say I’ve had.

The course was sublime in such a condition and manicured it was worthy of holding the pga event that week.

The 7th was class as well as the 15th just magnificent.

I had rented the clubs and was handed TM stealth they the bag had no issues there.

As to my game it wasn’t particularly great but I didn’t care as nothing was wiping the smile off our faces the whole way round plenty of good shots plenty of great shot and plenty of others too but more importantly plenty of laughs and giggles.

Worth every peso and I would easily pay that green fee again,

We are back in Mexico in 2023 moon palace so will play there and fingers crossed mayakoba.

I certainly have my own miracle at mayakoba forever memories .

Thanks mayakoba and also to mark my playing partners name.

Ironically Mark is coming to Scotland in 2023 so hopefully we can meet up again
That’s what’s special bout this game.

Sounds like everything (except having to touch those TM rentals) went great. Glad you enjoyed it like many of us have.
