Anytime you do not wipe your putter down before placing it back in the cover and there is any water on the putter it will have the potential to harm your putter... IMHO

Any moisture left on the club before it's put in the cover can harm the putter. Like Chris states, wipe it down before putting it back under wraps...magnet or velcro doesn't matter. It'd be nice though if Scotty would lose the velcro and step up his game to some magnets.

I have a Futura X and am on my 3rd cover. The Velcro wears down quickly and once I lose the cover off the cart a few times it is always a good indication it is time to start looking again. At $60 - $80 for each new cover( If you can find one), it would be great to have a better option such as magnets.

This has come up many times over the years. I have had great success with bringin my SC headcovers to a show repair or bootery and they remove the velcro and insert magnets for me. This has never caused rusting in my experience.

I don't think a magnetic cover will matter if you care for your club. There is also something you can add to your standard, velcro Scotty covers to add magnetic closure, it's called Magnet Mod, and it's sold on Etsy by Kick's covers. I have one for my blade head cover and it works well.

Like Chris stated, it's moisture left on the putter and then put in the headcover causing the putter to rust. Stainless steel is rust proof, and some of the older SC putters used to be a raw finish.

I have owned SC putters for years and never had any issues with rust.

Not true, I have had a magnetic cover with no ill effects to my Scotty Cameron Select Fastback. I don't understand the whole velcro headcover, they cause more damage to the finish of the putter. Must be a cost thing.

Wet putter = opportunity for rust

Wipe it off before you put the cover back on. When you get home take it inside (don't leave it in the trunk or garage) & take the head cover off.

I also have the Magnet Mod (one for a blade and one for a mallet). both work great

Magnets don’t cause rust, wet putters in any headcover do. I always wipe mine before putting the headcover on and then remove the cover when I get home until I next play.

Magnets don’t cause rust. Just get the Scotty Cameron putter wipe to moisturize your putter after each round.

I’d say you should also be drying your putter after every hole before putting the head cover back on. I’ve never had any rust issues

Hi guys quick questions, I just bought a Scotty 5.5x about a month and a half ago.  I play in the AM and always wipe down the face before putting back into headcover however I am starting to get rust dots all over my face.  Any suggestions on how to stop this from happening or how to clean them off? Thanks guys.

As frequently said you should always wipe the face of your putter before storing it in the headcover so you prevent damages and rust to the putter.

After each round, leave the putter cover off for at least a couple of hours and wipe down the putter with WD40. If any moisture at all is getting inside the cover this will happen. Another common culprit is granular fertilizer they put on the greens. It will eat up your putter if it gets inside the cover. If you suspect that has happened, wash out the cover or at least wipe it out good with a wet rag and then dry it out. Good luck.

What Dale said, but if using WD40 spray it on a paper towel or rag first.. The propellant can take the paint fill out.

It won’t be the propellant - I’m a chemist by trade and used to work for the company that manufactures wd40 in the UK. It’ll be one of the solvents in the liquid part. The propellant is the same propellant used in aerosol car paints.

I was always advised to use something like gun oil to coat a putter. I don’t coat mine in anything, just wipe it after every use then remove the headcover once home and wipe again. I’ll then put the headcover back on again before I go out.
