There are two ways, to see the ball go in the hole from the tee box or on a blind green to get up to the green and not find your ball and then look in the cup and see your ball. I had my first about 15 yrs ago and was able to see it go into the cup. This time it was a blind green and didn't know until we all approached the green and only saw 3 balls. Looking in the cup and seeing the ball was a shock of course but pretty exciting to say the least. Bought drinks for the group and the course (Lake Carroll) gave me the blue flag as a memento.
