I prefer playing early in the morning and am typically the first golfer on the Quail Ridge Golf Course in Bartlett, TN most days. The downside is sometimes they are cutting the greens which means one has to wait. Such was the case on August 7th, 2023 when i reached the Par 3 third hole. The hole is 136 yards downhill and when approaching I heard the distinct sound of the green being cut by Elton. I thought about skipping the hole, but decided to wait taking an unusual number of practice swings. Elton eventually moved off the green and headed toward the 7th hole whose green is parallel to the 3rd. I took a nice easy swing and watched my Titlleist fly straight down the center of the fairway. The ball struck the green, took a single bounce and rolled straight another 10-15 yards until it disappeared. Elton was still heading toward the 7th when I called him back during my approach. He captured this photo as I removed the ball from the hole. The hole-in-one came after a birdie on one and a par on the 2nd leaving me three under after three. Normalcy resumed on the 4th and I eventually finished the front 2+. Regardless, it was the best round of my life. So gad I waited on Elton.
