The day before the scheduled tournament I, Robert Hutchison, went to Dunham’s Sports in Moundsville, WV to purchase a dozen balls for the game the next day. Taking the weather into consideration I wanted to purchase the correct ball for the conditions. I would normally pick up a dozen Pro-V 1x’s and be on my way, but I read the back of the box about the ball flight, trajectory and spin. I compared Pro-V, Pro-V1x and AVX balls for my needs. I selected the AVX ball because I wanted to keep the ball out of the wind and wanted more release once it hit the ground.

A Senior series event was on May 10th at a West Virginia Golf Association held tournament in Elizabeth, WV at Mingo Bottom Golf Club. I was unfamiliar with this course. Our group started on the 5th hole in wet conditions. As I assessed the 10th hole par 3 147 yards, it was downhill, across the lake with a green sloping towards me. I decided not to hit the shot too deep so I would not be putting treacherously downhill. I decided to hit a 7 iron to the lower part of the green and allow it to release up the hill. The ball landed on the front of the green and released up the hill directly at the flag stick. The ball bounced and rolled up the hill and fell into the cup. This was my first hole in one after 48 years of playing golf.

It was interesting to me to see exactly what I envisioned in the store to determine what ball to buy to accomplish this thrilling moment in my life.
