There I was...with my five-some, battling another five-some putting out on the green just behind us. I’d carded a double on that hole and was trying to put that behind me and hopefully do better on the next hole. The next hole, #14, was the Arkansas hole, a short par three over water to a peninsula green cut in the shape of “The Natural State.” The green sloped from left to right, and that day the pin was on the right, just a few yards from the front. One of my buddies scoped the flag at 114 yards. I placed a brand new Titleist Pro V1 on the tee, and set up to hit just left of the pin. With the wind at my back, I made my swing, catching the ball just right. I can still it all in my mine. The ball rose high, shining brightly against the blue sky, then landed on the green and bounded toward the flag. “Go in the hole,” I shouted, and a moment later, as we all watched, the ball rolled up to the flag, then disappeared in the hole. There were High fives on my tee box, and even cheers from our friends who had witnessed my good fortune from the other green. My group won a few friendly-bet dollars from them. Later at a local watering hole, I treated them all to a cold frosty mug where we clinked glasses and cheered my Natural State hole in one.
