3 iron gaping

  1. I play the 714 AP1 W-4 iron.

I want to add the 3 iron to my bag but am not sure whether to go to the 716 AP1 or just add the 714 AP1 3.

What I am concerned with is gapping from the 4 iron. I want a consistent gap from 4-3 and am concerned that the 716 will be too long. It will be the longest iron in may bag and I don't like or use hybrids so I don't want a 15 year gap.

Any thoughts or just go for the extra distance and choke down when I have to?

In all honesty I cannot imagine the newer model providing such a significant increase in distance. Stick with the 714 or learn to love a hybrid (for me they offer much more versatility). It would not be worth getting just the 716 3 Iron... Hope this helps!

Bill, I am a big fan of going with my gut instinct. What's your gut telling you?

  5. Thanks to all of you for replying, I am very happy I joined the forum.

You are right, my gut tells me 714 as I will know for sure what to expect on each shot. Same feel, balance, etc.

That or go full Monty and buy the 716 set W-3 <wife giving me the evil eye>.

    Thanks again guys

Some people do like the AP1 long iron with the rest AP2. Just try it and see.

But, also make sure to try the T-MB. That's what I have for my 4-5 and love them.

    Grindelwald,

suggest to stay with the 714

Or maybe you could think about trying an utility...

Hit them both, see/feel the results, choose accordingly.
