Wedge Shafts?

    Looking at upgrading my wedges here very soon. I did a fitting at a big box store for my current SM8s back in '21 but I did not pay much attention to the shaft selection, nor did it come up during the fitting and since then I have become more keenly aware of the shaft as relates to overall club performance. I am an advocate for fittings regardless of the club and Titleist happens to be in my area in the next few weeks!

    So, all of that said, what advice or experience can anyone lend me regarding wedge performance related to shaft selection? Does it make a difference?

    Yes it makes a difference. If you've ever been to a full fitting, you realize the importance of proper shaft selection for all clubs.

    Depends. A lot of players like to use the heavier, stiffer shafts in their wedges. Most just go with the standard S200 that is the default shaft. I personally have gone to AMT R300 light shafts to better match my irons. I did that in SM9 and now SM10 and really like it for me. Does not matter what anyone else does, just what feels right for you.

    Rarely see anyone go stiffer in wedges... usually heavier and softer to give more feel with half shots.

    It can make a difference. I would start with which shaft in in your irons, and work off of that. You will typical want a similar profile in wedges, and possibly a bit heavier and / or softer.

    Like Dale, I go with the same shafts that are in my other irons. Have been doing this for years, based on the recommendation of my Titleist certified fitter. Consistency and has worked for me. No need getting a fitting if I am not going to listen to the numbers, results and professional recommendations.

    I got fit for all my clubs minus the wedges and putter. My irons they suggested the KBS tour lite regular flex and I wanted to experiment with wedge shafts. I went to the KBS hi rev 115 regular flex and it really gave me more feel in my wedges. I have found my numbers with my 54 & 60 became better after a better shaft fit and I saw more action going into the greens with the ball spin

    I would highly recommend taking advantage of the Titleist fitting opportunity. Not only is it a cool experience they were specific in every aspect of the wedge fitting and got my SM10’s dialed right in. I agree with Dale and Brock to work off your iron shafts and go from there, I also went to a heavier shaft in the end. Good Luck!
