  1. Is the AVX a “..low flying, low spinning golf ball” as described by Titleist, or in actuality, really just a low compression version of Pro V1, which was launched in response to tremendous success of cally Chrome Soft. If so, is the ball then being marketed improperly as a niche offering, rather than a ball for the vast majority of amateurs seeking Tour-level quality, only to protect the Pro V1/V1x brand. I ask as a former NXT player, that needs either the AVX or another offering from Titleist to then emerge!

AVX is a unique ball made of different material than ProV1 and different dimple depths when you compare them side by side. There is plenty of information about the details of these balls available if you do your research so no need to think that Titleist is not truthful in their description or that they feel they need to compete with any other company when it comes to golf balls given their vast superiority over all others.

I normally play ProV1x, I typically play courses that are quite windy. I played the AVX as I'm quite spinny and can get the ball in the air quite easily. For me, I did have a more penetrating trajectory with 10-13 mph winds. Greenside spin was noticeably less compared ProV1x but still enough to hold moderately firm greens, short chips still check'd when needed. Interesting enough I didn't notice a loss in distance. Also I felt it to be Softer than the ProV1x but not soft. I wish I could provide you a data point vs. the ProV1 but I typically don't play that ball.

    TLDR:
Noticable lower penetrating flight when compared to PV1x
Spin drop noticeable my SAWG would be circa 5-700 RPM loss compared to PV!x
No noticeable change in long game distance.
  4. I have found it to be just as Titleist says it is, and I much prefer ProV1 or Prov1x. To me, the AVX feels dead and heavy. I know a lot of folks like it, but it just doesn’t feel good to me. The obvious thing would be to buy a sleeve, and give it a try. It might just be the perfect ball for you.

While it doesn’t suit my game, it is not a low compression Pro-V1. With irons, it definitely rolls out further due to a lower descent. As that was the only plus for me, I continue to use the X.
Last I checked, the leading ball company is still Titleist. Would it be better to say Chrome Soft was marketed to compete with the AVX?
