I used to change from a V1 to an NXT Tour but this year I did not. I noticed my distance didn't really change enough to justify playing a different ball because it was cold like 45 degrees or less cold. So I quit playing in 40 degrees or less.

But I did for several years thinking I got a bit more distance out of the NXT then my Pro V1 in the cold. The feel was also different but not enough to make me not change balls. Then I got to thinking I'm playing to work on my game when it is cold, so why not play the ball I am going to play all the time, so this year that is what I did. Now I know how my Pro V1 performs in the colder weather and can adjust as needed.

Seriously considering thinking about changing to the AVX from the ProV1 during the winter months. Lower flight, less spin will probably help out at bit in the wet and cold winter.

Used to change when I lived in NY, what with temp change, leaves and wet fairway conditions ( Balls plugging so deep that you couldn't find them.) Now in FL, I don't change.

Looking forward to getting healthy again (knee injury) so I can go out and play in the winter. Hopefully that will be soon and I can try the AVE out on a chilly day.

Your post reminds me of my uncle who used to heat his Titleist balls up in the oven in a muffin pan-at low heat. Worked great to keep the balata balls warmer ao they would compress better-right up until he forget and left them in too long and they exploded...lol memories....priceless!

The one piece of advice I share with just about everyone I meet on the golf course is that if you change your golf ball, you change every shot in your bag. Playing the same ball is one less variable to consider and this holds true in all temperatures and conditions.

Interesting read, just stay with what you have so it seems with some adjustments.

I use the same ball year round Pro V1X . But as leaves fall and conditions get soft I use my used ones rather than a new ball as my winter ball.

I do try other balls during the "off-season", more so when it does get a little colder, and the ground is somewhat frozen. This is also the time of the year, when I will try and make a change/correction with my setup, swing, stance or even clubs.

To me, the scoring is no longer recorded, or at least up in the Northeast where GHIN scoring typically closes end of Oct, beginning of Nov.

If I was in a year round area, I would most likely NOT change or play around with other balls.

I do try and get properly fit for both my clubs and balls on a regular basis. Always nice to know from the experts that you have selected the appropriate equipment.

Come to believe in playing the same ball the year round. Why change what works for you? Most of the time it is the indian, not the weather or the club.

Depends on the round. If my AVX or ProV1x is not doing what it is supposed to do, then I carry a bunch of Velocity in my bag, and I will switch to one of them. Distance is always an issue for me. I can adjust my wedge game accordingly if I am using a harder ball.

Here in the PNW, when the rain starts, I cant justify playing the ProV1 or AVX. Too many lost balls to plugging. To be honest I play whatever soft ball i have, even a ladies ball in the 30s and 40s. I keep them in my pocket and rotate every hole when cold.

Yes actually I feel the same way with my prov1x's. I am going to be using the DT trusoft. It is just perfect for the cold. Its durable, yet soft, while still going long and not feeling so hard in the cold.
