Well as a high handicap (Officially a 22) player in the early portion of my second year of playing golf I had committed to using the ProV1 golf ball after seeing my numbers on a trackman fitting. Working on my swing everyday after work and playing in AmTour events I purchased about 16 dozen ProV1's at Christmas time. I have been close to breaking 90, bouncing around between low and mid 90's depending on which golfer showed up to play that day. WIth an average of about 3-4 lost balls per round.
After a few days off from golf I decide to play on Memorial Day on a Course that I had not played before with an old co-worker. I grabbed a sleeve of the AVX balls from my bag which I purchased from a local club the day they launched and forget they were in my bag.
So I put the AVX in play and promptly striped my first tee shot right down the middle. To my surprise I have the same ball through 17 holes, finally loosing one on the 18th hole and shooting my career best of 84. The course was a Par 70 playing at 6044 yards with a rating on 69.1.
I nearly drove 2 of the greens. The control off the tee was great. The misses were also playable. When I made a great shot I was rewarded. I chipped in for a birdie from off the green, and nearly holed 2 others that resulted in tap in pars. Needless to say I was quite pleased.
So now to the problem, what do I do with all the ProV1's? Do I make the switch to the AVX? How much was as a result of the ball, versus me maybe finally grooving my swing?
Nevertheless I would encourage anyone to try the AVX out without a doubt. I only wish I could have finished the round with that same ball without loosing it but sometimes you can't have everything.
