    Hi Lou,

Have you received the survey/questionnaire since your posting?  I still haven't received it, which is odd since we received the balls the first week of September.

    Thanks and hit 'em straight,

    Dave C

Yes, I tested a sleve of balls but wanted to know what ball I was testing?  Was it for the new Pro v?  Great ball!!

I received the test balls and responded to the survey. Since then I have played them a few more times and can tell you as a 19 handicap player I can hit these balls much more consistently. Can't wait to find out which type they are so I can purchase them when they come out.

I, too, have enjoyed testing the new Titleist golf balls. Mine were the red numbers. All-round, this ball seems great! It was longer; felt as though it carried farther. I thought my ball flight was a bit higher. It felt good coming off any club face. It was receptive around the  greens; it held good on approach shots as well as chips/pitches. I was impressed with the feel off the putter, as well. I completed the survey and can't wait for this ball to available! I just hope it wasn't a placebo and my mind and game were playing tricks with me. Great ball Titleist and thanks for the opportunity to participate!

I got lucky I guess. I have been participating on the site and I answered an email that mentioned an opportunity to be selected. I completed a questionaire and a little while later I got a sleeve of balls in the mail.

I am also part of the test group, but I have black ink numbers.  I'm a 14 hdcp from the tips and I play the ball down.  These balls seem to be right inbetween the V1 and V1x balls.  I've tested several shots from 150 yards and 100 yasrds - 3 balls of each type and in each case, these new test balls aren't the best, but aren't the worst either.  They seem to be more consistent than the others though - they end up closer to each other than the other 2 brands.  I like them, hope to hear what they actually are after the test is completed - I'll buy them for sure....

I've tested prototype balls before but don't ever remember any type of notification of the ball type being announced.  An email would be nice.  I too enjoyed this ball and the reaction i had with all of my clubs.  I think I would for sure change to this ball if we were notified of the name given upon release.

  13. I agree!  Thanks.

David, I too missed the survey email, but call Titleist and they resent the survey very quickly. I was fortunate be part of the r & d process for the past couple of years and really wanted to express my absolute love for the 2015 pro v's.
  15. I LOVED those balls AND filled out the survey, but how do we find out what kind of balls we were testing?  Will Titleist tell us? It  was just wonderful.  Mine is black numbers, probably same as the guy that started this blog.

    Joel,

I don't believe Titleist sends out prototype balls every few days.  From past experience, it appears Titleist groups its Team Titleist contacts by ball preference or type of player and sends prototype balls a couple months prior to their official roll outs, where their balls seem to be on 2-year product runs (similar to their clubs).  I don't believe they share information with us on how/when they select people to test their balls, but from reading blogs on when balls have been rolled out, this is what I have gathered.

    Cherie,

If history serves correct, we will not find out what we tested.  Up to us to buy new balls and/or attend demo sessions to see what works for us.  The prototype balls I received were red numbers and a urethane cover, I can only assume V1x, to be consistent with Titleist's past labeling.

    Bubba,

Thank you for sending me the link to fill out the survey.  I appreciate your help and look forward to continuing to be of assistance to the TT program.

    Thanks,

    Dave

This was my first time to test prototypes and it was fantastic. I'm thinking since I noted in my profile that I use Pro V 1X that is the prototype they sent me to test. I really didn't see all that great of difference in distance from the tee with my test ball, but around the green man oh man what a difference. I was getting spin like never before, talk about stop and drop spin on command this ball delivered the ability to spin when I needed it and I was still able to get it to release and roll out too. as a 12 Handicap you know I don't have pro spin ability but I made some shots the day I played the test balls that caused the guys in my regular weekly foursome to take notice and even begged me to share the other two test balls (like hell I did). I kept them for myself, since I played the whole round with the same ball I knew I had at least one or two more rounds with a new test ball. By the way I shot 82 on the test day which is about 6 under my normal rounds. Please Titleist ship these out ASAP, I'll sleep in the parking lot of my local golf shop the night before they go on sale so I can be the first to put these in my bag. Oh, and I'm keeping what type of ball I tested and when its available a secret from the guys I play with, I'm not giving them weapon like this to use against me.

The test balls I received were awesome.  Feel was similar or maybe a little better to the x, distance was as good or better.  I would say 4-5 yards on irons.  Hard to tell off of a driver.  One very nice result was the finish.  I played one ball for 64 holes and it still looked brand new as it went sailing into the woods.

Leave it to the #1 ball in golf to let those not on tour to give feedback on a product will always have a permanent spot in my bag

I received the Red Number test balls a little while ago and just got to take them out on the course.  For background, I would say that I am an intermediate-level golfer (although the 15-20 handicap doesn't really reflect that).  I strike the ball pretty well, but I do tend to overswing and take my swing path a little bit outside.  I usually hit about a 5 yard fade and I find it difficult to draw the ball.  My best balls are dead straight.

In any case, just pulling the balls out, you could tell that the cover was much softer than the balls that I usually play.  From past experience with the Pro V1, I expected that the performance of this ball would be dictated largely by the consistency of my swing.

In general, the ball reacted much more to my "fade" swing off the tee, which I kind of expected.  In most cases, when using a 10.5 driver, I found that the side spin was exaggerated and my 5 yard fade would turn into a 10-15 yard slice.  On the few tee shots where I was able to wind down my swing to a better tempo, the ball responded well.  There was good carry off the club and it would stay reasonably straight.  This is more a case of my swing not fitting the ball.

As I got to mid-iron range, the ball got much more playable.  I felt like the response off the clubface was much hotter and that the spin responded exceptionally well to the type of swing that you made.  So, a dead-wrist swing stopped the ball, whereas, a normal more aggressive strike would pull the ball back.  As you can guess, my swing does tend to get much more consistent as the clubs get shorter, so that plays in here, too.  There were no concerns about the ball staying straight at this point.

Green-side play was incredible.  The soft cover really stands out here.  Chipping and putting are just a dream with this ball.  It definitely felt as though the ball was rolling immediately off the putter strike, as opposed to sliding first, then starting to roll.

I would definitely say that this is a great ball, but because of my swing flaws (especially with long clubs), I would probably stick with a ball that is slightly less springy with a harder cover.  If Titleist has a prototype ball that fits my swing a little better, then I would definitely want to give it a go.

  23. I received a sleeve of red numbered balls. I normally play Pro V1 and have to say I didn't notice a great deal of difference. Long off the tee and with great feel around the greens. Would love to know what these were. Would definitely consider using them.
