I was watching the Valero Texas Open today and was amazed at how much the players and their caddies would pull out their books and read through them for almost every shot. I know the USGA and the R&A made some significant rules changes regarding green reading books in order to help speed up play. I have a suggestion. Take away all notes during the tournaments. Let them use all the notes they want during the practice rounds but once the tournament starts on Thursday morning - no papers allowed. Give the caddies a range finder and let them use the sprinkler heads for yardages. Apart from that - let the pro's use their eyes and their skill to figure out their way around the course and on the greens. Surely that would speed things up. They are great players. They should not need all that extra help. What do you think ?

I agree with the concern about how much the tour players are leaning on their books but I wonder just how long players have been using notes? It seems to me that it is at least 50 years (that's about how long I have been watching and playing). Maybe not the fancy ones that they have to day but handwritten or hand drawn ones made during their practice rounds. Given that they have become such a part of the game I think it would be very difficult to take them away completely. That said, I do agree that the pace of play needs to be picked up. I would like to suggest better enforcement of the pace of play rules that are provided at each tournament.

Sounds like a good idea and ban aim point while were at it. Watching Kegan Bradley was ... I can't find the words.

It certainly is frustrating to watch and painfully slow. Especially when BOTH the player and caddie each have a book out and are calculating the same thing. But I suppose if they can save a shot or two each week by doing it, it is more money in their pocket (or even a chance to win). Kenny Harms, who caddies for Kevin Na has had some great videos on Instagram the last few years showing the regular yardage books, the lasered colour yardage books, and the old green reading books before they were banned this year. It is amazing the detail that they had and no wonder some of the players seem to be lost without them now. He even has a video this week with the 2022 Masters yardage book. It is the only one they are allowed to use for the tournament.
