I was looking at the new Scotty Cameron putter line and got thinking about the different versions coming out. Of course - beyond the look of playing a blade vs playing a mallet one of the key things in selecting a putter is your natural putting stroke. I currently game a 2016 Scotty Cameron Face Balanced GOLO 5. I am looking at some of the new Model X offerings which are designed to help you take advantage of your stroke tendencies. The X12 seems interesting given the shaft is designed for a slight toe hang, yet the weighting of the head forces a face balance. I am intrigued. Will certainly have to get out and give them a try once they are available in shops so I can select the right one for my game. What is your preference ? Do you stroke straight back and trough or prefer the arc ?

I don't know what type of stroke I have really but I used to game a 2017 Newport 2. I would constantly be short and 3 putt a lot. After buying a 2020 Phantom X12.5 it was a game changer. I was able to judge speed and start online much better.
  3. Face Balanced, found it by mistake bought my first Scotty unseen, thought I was getting a traditional Del Mar with tonnes of toe hang, but got a Del Mar 2 Long Slant.... which is actually face balanced. That's when I learned I liked to go back and forth.

the design of the head isn't what determines whether it's face balanced. all that matters for face balance is that the line extended from the centerline of the shaft through the putter head intersects the perpendicular line drawn through the center of gravity of the putter head.

you can have face balanced blades, face balanced mallets, face balanced asymmetrical putters, it's just down to the position at which the shaft is attached to the head.

scotty doesn't generally seem to believe in face balancing his putters. they do exist but almost all his models have at least SOME toe flow. this is because it's pretty well impossible to have a putting stroke with zero arc.

GoLo 5 center shaft 33 inches. My stroke has very little arc.
