I keep seeing stories about how the match play format did not produce the top players in world ranking competing on the weekend... Sorry, but that is not how golf works. The player that out plays his competition in each match is the one who moves on. Be it from great play or good bounces the result is earned in the end. Once you get into the top 50 in the world rankings there is very little that separates the players anymore. They are all great ! Billy Horschel pulled off the win this weekend with steadfast play. Great driving, iron play, and putting. He wielded his TSi metal woods masterfully. He earned the win and I found it exciting to watch. It is great to have something different every now and again from the regular stroke play events... Congrats to Billy on hard fought win.

I agree about the top 50 remark and I enjoy watching the Pro's play Match Play because at this level, sandbagging is non existent and it is as Darius explains above, great play and a favorable bounce once in a while.

Now, do I like Match Play? No.... too many Sandbaggers and I soon see that after a few holes played, I have to birdie almost every hole just to tie/beat an 18 handicapper who all of a sudden and in his words "I got lucky" and posts Par for 12 holes in a role.

    Ridiculous!

Enjoyed seeing the course. Happy for Billy Horschel he most certainly played the best and is full value for the win. I do wish they would have played a little quicker. I did get a laugh listening to the announcers comments on the cold blast of winter in Texas and the amount of wind that they played in. Obviously those announcers have never visited southern Alberta.

18 holes of Match play definitely creates that 'any given Sunday' scenario where anyone can beat anyone in a match. Certainly different that 4 rounds of stroke play where the top players consistently end up on the leaderboard.

Although if there were an Official World Golf Ranking for match play it might be predictable who would be ranked number one?
