Ontario Golf Season Now Officially Over

    It is sad, but we hit this point every year where the official golf season ends. Of course, there may be a chance to get out and play another few rounds in the warmer climates through November and even perhaps beyond, but none of those can count for your handicap. I did get out for a few holes today but just took my five iron and a few balls as the rain had soaked the course to the point where if it were not closing day they would have been closed :) It was a great year over all. I did struggle with my injury, but because of that I got a lot better with my short game and putting. My focus this winter will be on healing the shoulder and working on my putting in the basement. Hope you all had a great season and manage to get in a few more rounds before the snow accumulates and forces the courses to close.

    Good luck with the rehab. I am finding my indoor practise session much more challenging now that I have a cat and a dog. The dog came first, and moved my putting green upstairs where she is not allowed. Unfortunately the cat does not respect barriers, and he gets really annoyed when I hit more that one or 2 balls. He may get banished to the bedroom with the door closed in the future.

    Sadly yes, the snow appears to be here to stay in Ottawa. Off to the Simulators!

    I think we got our last game in yesterday. It is raining in Southern Ontario today, and then the temperature is going to go down. Yesterday, however, was perfect. 12 degrees, light wind, dry fairways, rolled fast greens.

    This was the first year I bought a membership and now its the shortest year for golf....very disappointing.

    Didn't you find you played more, however. In the past you were less likely to play in poorer weather and pay a green fee. Now, you have already paid, you may as well hazard the elements and go play. If you only play in fair weather, then you definitely did not get your money's worth.

    I did.... I played 3-4 times a week from April until October.

    Bob - I sort of agree with you :)
    Because i have a membership, I will often head out to the course even if it is raining because it may not be as bad there as compared to home. I agree that when I was playing on a pay as you go basis, I would not even bother to call and book a tee time if the weather was bad. With a membership I will still head out and take my chances. Sometimes I only managed to get in nine before it got too nasty out, but that still added to my total. Unlike you however, I still don't like heading out on a miserable day. Although, being retired gives me the benefit of knowing I can always go out the next day !

    The weather man was playing tricks on us this week. He got our hopes up when it was supposed to get above freezing and rain Friday and Saturday. I wishfully booked a time for Sunday morning expecting 5 or 6 degrees, no snow, and light wind. Unfortunately, we got snow instead on Friday, and the temperatures on Saturday while being sunny, were not high enough to melt the snow. Hence, we are watching football today instead of golfing. So close!

    Managed to get one more round in Friday afternoon. The course was dry, greens were still really good, slightly frozen so a few wicked bounces, and chips coming back to the hole. The biggest challenge was getting the tees in the ground. Otherwise, very light wind, 5 degrees and partly sunny. It was a great afternoon.

    We have way too much snow up here in Barrie for any of that ! Spent the last two days shovelling and blowing snow.

    Cold in Oakville, but not much snow at all. What ever falls is gone 2 days later. I believe Hidden Lake in Burlington is still open as long as the ground is not snow covered. I enjoy playing golf, but not when it's 2 deg. outside.

    If my hands are not cold, and my eyes are not watering, then I am good to go. Last Friday, was partly sunny, and virtually no wind. I had on my raingear pants, and I have a light weight winter jacket. I did not need any gloves, and I had my ball cap on, no torque. It was really good.
