I am sure that most of us will be watching the Ryder Cup this year. All the hype around the U.S. team building process puts a lot of weight at Phil's feet for his comments two years ago. Personally - I hope Phil does really well in his matches, but I am hoping for a European win. I root for the world during the Presidents Cup, and I just can't help myself when it comes to the Ryder cup as well. Wouldn't it be great to see another match up between Rory and Ryan Moore on Sunday?

I predict a close match with Europe going home with the cup.

    What about you ???

Hi Darius, ... I think it will be a very close affair as well. I do think that the US team will pull this one out. Yet, it is hard to overlook a team that has:

    - reigning Masters Champion (Willett)
    - reigning British Open Champion (Stenson)
    - reigning Olympic Golf Medalist (Rose)
    - newly crowned FedEx Cup champion (McIlroy)

Any combination of those four will probably yield results and points in favour of the European team. Yet, I do think that the US team will still pull it out as I think the rest of the rookies of the European Team will perform well, but not well enough to capture all of the points needed to reach 14.5 total.

Hey Dino, I was just thinking the same thing with regards to European dominance in winning 4 of the 6 biggest golf events this year.

DJ has had a great year, Jimmy Walker & Patrick Reed have shown some good form as well but it's hard to point to much on the U.S. side. One of the greatest accomplishments this year was by a vice captain shooting 58... ouch.

I think the U.S. team can win but DLIII will need to produce some really good pairings. Maybe like a DJ/Koepka duo that wins every match because they turn it into a pitch and putt or perhaps a Sea Island Mafia combo of Zack J./Matt Kuchar. It's hard for me to see a number of pairings on the U.S. side that look good.

My prediction is 15-13 in favour of Europe.

    Lethbridge,

I will be pulling for the Euros but do think the US will win. I do not like that Phil is throwing Watson under the bus and today he blamed Sutton or his poor showing in 2004. When will he accept that he did not make the putts and his driver off of the Tee was wayward.

Scott ...just after I submit my "predictions" ... along comes Phil's press conference event and next thing you know voila ! Team USA is showing signs of fragility and insecurity! We'll see how things play out -- but if the US does not win, then I think Phil is finished -- never to get near another Ryder Cup unless he qualifies on points.

    Dino & Scott...
I for one do not think that Phil was being purposely nasty and trying to be disrespectful to Hal Sutton. When I watched the full press conference, I was actually impressed with his response to the question for an example of how important it was to plan the teams in advance and discuss with the team when making the choices. He used the example of how he prefers a low spin abll, and Tiger preferred a high spin ball (or visa versa). I found it a very interesting and compelling story. The last thing that came to my mind was that he was being disrespectful. However - the media needs good story lines to fill in four days of coverage prior to the event, so everything that is said is carefully scrutinized and picked apart to make news. Not unlike how the media kept after Danny Willett to try and get him to say something regarding his brother's article...
Regardless - I have to agree that the Sutton incident puts a real damper on the U.S. team. It is not going to help Phil and Ricky to be up against Rory either !

Hi Darius, ... I understand your viewpoint and comments. I did see the entire press conference too ... but I think Phil forgot to also take responsibility for the disaster as well. Let's not forget that Phil decided to switch clubs the week before ... now, that is something that was 100% within his control ... so he let the team down by taking that kind of position.

He is a heck of a good golfer and the best escape artist since Severiano Ballasteros, but this was a team event and Phil sometimes needs to remind himself of that.
