I'm headed to the east coast later this week and managed to fit in some time to tee it up.  Saturday, I will be playing Cabot Links and Sunday at Cabot Cliffs.  I played and stayed at Cabot Links back in 2012 and absolutely loved it.  We played 54 holes in less than 24 hours which was a feat in itself!  At that time, Cabot Cliffs was only a rumour.  Now, it is rated as one of the best golf courses in the world.  I will be sure to share my experiences along with some photos.

By the way, the accommodations and food are unbelievable as well.

Have you playing Cabot Links or Cliffs yet?
If so, what did you think?
Did you know that our Titleist NXT Tour and Velocity golf ball commercials were shot on the property?

    Cheers,
    Mitch D

I have heard great things about both courses. It is on my list of places to go and experience. I look forward to hearing and seeing an update on your trip. I would also be interested in hearing what kind of costs are involved and some tips on getting tee times.
Enjoy your rounds, and don't forget to take a few extra balls. It looks like if you miss a few of those fairways there would be no means of recovery :)

Have a great time Mitch! this place is just awesome.....nothing else can really describe it. The town feels like your in a small town in Scotland and yes the golf is just as good. The course is forgiving to be honest. alot of the trouble areas with long fescue, etc you are most times able to find your ball and at the very least have a wedge pitch shot out and back into play.
I was extremely lucky enough to be there 2 times. once in 2014 and played Links and last year in September I was humbled to be chosen for the Titleist golf ball commercial thru the team Titleist contest. One in a life time experience. We where treated like pros........ignore the swings though lol.

For ideas of cost it is a bit expensive but well worth it. To same some money I have a few tips.
    1. play twilight........cost is down to $115 compared to $215. and really this is the best time of day to play these. The sun sets directly over the course off the ocean. Its a beautiful scene.
    2. if you can go the day before or even earlier in the day before your tee time. They let you walk around the course a bit and its great opportunity to take it all in and get some of the picture taking out of the way. (you will still want to take lots during the round trust me) but this will allow you to get over that in awe moment and focus a bit more on the golf.
    3. if you have the means that resort is great but is costly. behind the links course and you can see a few holes of the Cliffs course is cottages that only cost about a $100 per night and are right off the water and you have access to the beach which is beautiful. search McLeod Beach Cottages website.
    4. Food costs are fine. The pubs there are priced well and have lots of great beers to choose from and Donair covered Fries............not need to explain just get them and and dont turn back!!!!!

To get tee times. Its not really that hard if your going as a single or twosome. Even full groups of 4 its not really that hard. I have always had and easy time to get times. The girls that work the phones will go out of there way for you to book the times as close as possible to what you want/need.

I hope to get back this fall but if not next spring for sure.

I grew up in Nova Scotia and played the Cabot Links course. I don't think the Cliffs course had been built yet. there were no carts allowed there either! I haven't been back to Cape Breton in years but would love to play both courses. Have a great trip Mitch!
  9. Awesome Mitch! I look forward to hearing about it! I hope we are able to play there one day.

Steve and I are heading for PEI this fall. We're playing Crowbush Cove, Andersons Creek, Green Gables, Mill River and Glasgow Hills. We've played all but Mill River before. Really looking forward to it!

As you would expect, my trip out to Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs was amazing. As mentioned, I played and stayed at Cabot Links back in 2012 so was excited to get back and play it again. Of course, I was also really excited to play Cabot Cliffs for the first time.

We drove in VERY early from PEI on the 6:30AM ferry followed by the drive out to Inverness. We had a 1:30PM tee time but arrived at 11AM. Since we were just a 2 ball, the starter offered to bump us up and send us off right when we got there with another 2 ball. We had a great time and the rerouting of the course makes it even better than the first time that I played it.

Pictures truly do not do this place justice...
The 1st picture is off the side of #7 green at Cabot Links looking up the coast.
The 2nd picture is from #14 tee box staring down at the infinity green.

Early the next morning we had a 7:20 tee time for Cliffs. Due to cancellation of the first foursome, the starter once again, let us go off early. One of the coolest golf experiences of my life teeing off at Cabot Cliffs at 7AM as the sun rises and waves crash into the cliffed shoreline. Easily, my new favourite golf course.
While much has been written about #16, #17 and #18, I was blown away by how good holes #1-#10 were. And that's not to say #11-#14 were weak by any stretch. There truly is not a bad hole on the course. #15 was a VERY cool and unexpected par 5 with a blind second shot and really just the ocean in your view.
#16-#18 are some of the coolest golf holes that I've ever seen. Nothing like hitting over the ocean/cliffs into Par 3 #16!

3rd picture below is my friend hitting his approach shot into Par 5 #1 at Cliffs while the sun was still rising.
4th picture is Par 3 #16...Very cool hole and completely different once you walk up and see the green.
5th picture is Par 4 #17 from the tee box. Very short and down hill. Another gorgeous hole.

If you can make it out, don't hesitate to do so. You will not regret it!

Mitch ... looks fantastic! How was the weather - wind wise?

Did you find yourself focusing more on the scenery than the golf? :-). I understand from friends that play in picturesque places like Cabot Cliffs are prone to becoming "spectators" to the incredible vista's etc.

Also Mitch, how did you find t he condition and speed of the greens? Were they receptive to all types of shots or were they more of a green that requires good shotmaking?

I really want to get out to that part of Canada and play there in the not too distant future!
