  1. I went in for a fitting last month (thanks Chris!) and put in my wedge order just over a week ago. My SM6 52/08 (bent to 53*) arrived today. I can't wait to try it out! (Was fitted for two wedges but the next one has to wait until my golf fund is built back up.)

Congratulations on your new arrival Wendy !!!

I hope you enjoy your new addition as much as I am enjoying mine. I still don't hit every chip or pitch perfectly, but Chris can only fix my equipment gap, not the gap between my ears :) The improvement in my game is significant because of the fitting however. Hope you see the same !!!

Which finish did you get ?

Congratulations too Wendy! I have a trio of SM5's in my bag, but I am busy admiring the SM6's too. I did a fitting and have mine all "spec'd" out. But, every time I am in the golf store or pro shop and spot the SM6 wedges, I cannot help but admire them! :-)

Darius asked what finish you selected and I am curious as to the grind option that you were fitted for.

On another note, I notice a thread elsewhere on the main TT site where someone is making the argument that another brand of wedges are "superior" given that they are forged and the Vokeys are not forged.

I am curious Darius, Wendy, and anyone else who may wish to respond, what are your thoughts? Did you consider the forged vs. cast aspect? Or were you satisfied with the feel of the Vokeys and prefer the various options, grinds, bounce options, etc. offered?

It seems to me that every review that I have come across considers the Vokeys to be the "Gold Standard" in wedges. And,from the sheer volume of professionals that play the Vokeys (even if they have equipment sponsors for the remainder of the bag), is a huge testament to the quality of the Vokeys and there status as the standard among professionals too.

    Hi Dino,
Regarding your comment about cast vs forging process in Vokey Wedges...
Bob Vokey actually answered this here:
    www.titleist.ca/.../bob-vokey-your-questions-answered-part-ii

Note: The FLV video file is best run via VLC which you can download for free.

In short, the casting process gives Bob Vokey and his team more freedom during the design process. Bob and his team have tested casted vs forged wedges with tour players who can identify even the most subtle of difference. As Bob mentions in the video, he has never had a tour player tell him that Vokey wedges feel could be improved with forging. And you would be amazed at the very subtle details tour players can see and feel.

Absent of any measurable performance benefits or noticeable feel benefits, Bob and his team continue to use a cast process. If there was a benefit, we would be making them available! ; )

Keep the great questions coming Dino.

    Cheers,
    Mitch D
  5. I got the chrome finish so it matched the rest of my irons. Forgot to say it's F grind too.

Congrats Wendy. I was fit a while ago by Chris for a trio of SM5's.

Dino, I would love to be able to provide a comparison between the forged competitor vs. the Vokey's in my bag but I honestly cant as I have not tried the others. What I can say however is that apart from my S.C. (which is hands down my favorite club in the bag this year) my three Vokey's take the next three spots. They always perform, I love the way the respond, they allow me to have great touch around the greens and I couldn't imagine any other clubs coming even close.

    Enjoy the US Open.
  7. I never even thought about the forged v cast aspect. Too me it didn't matter as I knew I was getting a superior product. I couldn't imagine having a wedge that feels any better than the one I was fitted for.

After Mitch's note on the question of Forged vs Cast - I do not believe anything more needs to be said !

    Thanks Mitch :)

    PS: Love my SM6's...
Had a 105 yd shot today with a slight helping wind and using the SM6 I stuck it in to within 5 feet and it stopped on a dime !

    Darius,
You are making it hard on me! Hahaha ... I love my SM5's, but I am pining for some new SM6 wedges too! I had a fitting for them and they are all spec'd out and ready to order, but like others here, I am "building" up my golf fund in order to pay for them! :-)

The hard part is that every time I go into Golf Town or one of the local pro shops, I find myself admiring the SM6's and longing for them! :-)

I love my forged Irons (714 AP2's) but I am more than pleased with my Vokey wedges and I completely agree with information posted by Mitch from Bob Vokey in regards to the advantage of casting.
