Lately I have been struggling to get my score down to my normal game. Thankfully I have my new Vokey wedges to help me out so I still manage to salvage a decent score, but for some reason "IT" goes away for seven or eight holes during my round. I find a way to add an extra stroke on the hole during that spell. One hole it will be a slightly errant tee shot that forces me to simply get the ball back in play. On another hole, the tee shot will be perfect but I will thin an iron shot forcing an extra shot into the green. On another hole I will play it perfectly tee to green, and then for some reason decide to three-putt. I have lost track of how many rounds I have played lately where I go 44,38 or 37,42 or put the run of extra strokes right in the middle of the round.

I always have a positive mind set when playing as I know I have "IT" and am just a fraction off. "IT" goes away, and then "IT" comes back.

I am wondering what some of my fellow TT'ers do when "IT" goes away so that perhaps I can get "IT" back a little quicker during my round.

I eagerly await your feedback on capturing the ever elusive "IT" :)

    Hi Darius,
I liked how you characterized the situation. :-)

As for me, when my scores go "north" or start "hemorrhaging" it is often as a result of lack of mental focus, sharpness and "stamina".

I tend to really see my scores balloon when I let the little slip ups "infect" my mental approach for the remainder of the round. On course, I am trying really hard to "live in the moment" and think about my next shot, where I want the ball to go, the swing I need to make to execute the shot, etc.

So what I try to do afterwards, when the round is over and done, is take time to reflect upon the round, think about what my thought process was when things were starting to go down. I sometimes find that when I play again, I have a mental picture and/or strategy as to how I would approach that situation again so as to avoid the bad swing/stroke, etc.

Its what I do, maybe you will find something worthwhile in my process or perhaps it will trigger something in your process. Regardless, I'm confident that "it" will come back to you Darius! Thanks for sharing and inviting our thoughts!

Darius: I feel your pain. I have had the same "gremlins" this year too. 14 good holes and 4 funky ones. Bad tee shots, lost balls, lousy chip shots and then 3 or 4 putts. I recently went 47 (+11) on the front nine and 34 (-1) on the back nine. No rhyme or reason as to why. Just keep plodin' along and remember we are playing for "fun".
