    Edmonton,

    Hi all:

Im a 18 Handicap been playing golf for roughly 15 years or so. Been using various ball types and models, really like to Titleist NXT or NXT S. I've tried the titleist online ball fitting and it say that I could use the Pro V base on what I input in. Have started taking regular lessons where I'm hoping fundamentals would get better.

I would like like any additional advise that you could give me.

    thanks

I have found that handicap does not dictate which ball one should play. Ideally it comes down to which ball you play best with. Like everyone else, I too have experimented with a number of balls before I settled on the ProV1x as my prime choice. It is the ball that works best for me for all my shots.

I would suggest you take a few different balls and try them out while playing a round. If the course you are playing is not busy then you can try hitting two drives and watch the results. Try chipping with different balls as well. Just remember to not always use ball "A' first otherwise Ball "B" gets the advantage simply because you have just hit that shot. Remember how the second try almost always works out better.

Best of luck on your hunt for the perfect fit.

In the end - I don't think Titleist makes a bad ball so you you can't lose :)

    Hi Marc,

As Darius mentioned, finding the right ball is a matter of experimentation.  There are a couple of things you could do:

    1. Alternate the ball you use in consecutive rounds, and look at the score.  For example, play Monday with an NXT, Tuesday with a NXT S, Wednesday with a Pro V... then start the rotation again.  After playing several rounds with each ball, look at average scores for each ball.  If you do it often enough, toss out the high and low scores for each ball type, and average the remaining scores.

    2.  On a  slow day at your course, if there is nobody around, play two balls.  This is as close to a direct comparison as I can think of.

I had started keeping tabs on what my score was with different balls by doing option 1 last year, and stopped after I did the second option.  It became pretty clear to me which ball I preferred. For me, it is the Pro V1x

That being said, the ball I play changes during the year.  In the fall, when even a good swing can cause a lost ball in the fairway (under a pile of leaves), I tend to give my wallet a break, and play the NXT Tour.

    Regards,
