  1. Hi,

I would like to play with only 6 irons

    I was thinking of this:

    Iron Loft Loft Bounce Carry
    CB 4 4 25 +1 3 200
    CB 6 6 30 -1 3 180
    MB 7 7 36 +1 6 160
    MB 9 9 42 -1 6 140
    MB P P 48 +1 8 120
    TVD K S 56 100

    What do you think of bounce beiing 3 - 3 - 6 - 6 - 8

    Instead of a progressive 3 - 4 -5 -6 -7....

I'm not sure why you would want to do this but what you have laid out looks reasonable. Don't worry too much about bounce in irons, shaft lean negates bounce in irons for the most part. Will have more of an impact on how the club feels through the turf not much in terms of flight with irons.

Sebastien...  Looks like a shot makers bag. Definitely a mix of clubs that would force one to learn how to manufacture soft shots along with the typical full swing. I must say that I am impressed with the 200 yard carry from the 4 iron. I remember the days when I could do that, but alas age has caught up with my game and I now need either a solid 3 iron or my 913 F to do that :)

  4. Those carry are calculated based  on what i am currently playing....its more a pin distance/club selection type of "carry" (our green are very soft and receptive...)

    Hi Seb

I agree with others that bounce of an iron is not a big issue.  On a well struck iron shot, you hit the ball first, and then the ground.

For accuracy, the MB Pitch wedge will become a 9° bounce, as it is 8° before you have it bent 1° weak.

Your proposed set makeup does make some sense in terms of gapping.  You're trying for a consistent 20y gap in carry distance, and in terms of loft, you're between 5 and 6 degree increments.  It is a little unorthodox, but you probably have your reasons.  Maybe you want to carry a boatload of wedges below the S.  Or maybe you're playing "speed golf" and need a lighter bag.

To me, having 20y gap at the mid to long end of the set makeup is not a big deal... I never go pin hunting when I'm 170y or more out... I'm just not that good... anywhere on the green is OK.  But when I'm inside 170, certainly inside 150, I think about specific landing areas on the green.  In that case having tighter gapping (say, 10y between irons) means I get to put a consistent full swing on the ball.  It makes distance control easier because I don't have to manipulate my swing as much.  But that's me.  You know your game best.  Whatever get the ball into the hole in the fewest number of strokes!

  6. Hi tx all for you answer.

The main reason of having fewer clubs is I like to play speed golf - I usually play 18 holes within 2 hours.

Carrying fewer club make my day more enjoyable -especially the last 3 holes when things starts to feel heavy.

I just move next to a golf club ( the 14 hole is in my backyard) and I plan to play more (from 2/3 round per week to 4/5)

The 2nd reason is that last year, I notice I practically never touch some irons.

I played more than 20 rounds with half set and my handicap improved...

Half set is too few because it meant 25-30 yards gap between each club and sometime i missed having a complete set, but i think the 6 clubs i presented would be an ideal in between

The 3rd reason is I want to better develop swings,  (cut the club, playing low, playing high, etc)

I am already pretty comfortable with fades and draw - having 20 yard gap will force me to work the ball more often.

The 4th reason is I like having "multiple of 5 yard" gap... like   10, 15, 20

I don't like having as an exmaple.... 13 yards between each club...

KEVIN:  Tx for correcting the bournce ( I didn't notice CB and MB doesnt have the same bounce....)

  7. I would also add that i am currently playing pw +2' an 9 + 1' ...which is 5' gap between 8 9 an pw...its really my current 4 5 6 7 8 that are too tightly gap to my taste
