  1. I'm looking at buying a 50, 54, 58 degree wedge in the SM5s this year. I know that there is different grinds and bounces and I'm not much of a divot taker with my scoring wedges in general. I'm currently playing a 52-10, 56-11, 60-09 in cally forged wedges. I hit my wedges more thin then fat and I have a fairly high ball flight with my scoring irons. What grind(s) and bounce(s) would you guys recommend for me?

    Thanks for the Help!!

    Hi Jason,

I would recommend the following in SM5:

-50.08 a shallow player will typically have the best results with this gap wedge.

-54.11- S grind if you play shots with this club square faced.  M- Grind if you tend to open the face angle.

-60.07(S Grind)/60.08(M Grind)- Choose the grind based on the same guidelines as the 54.11.

**Keep in mind:  During testing the S grind plays like it has more bounce in the bunker compared to the M grind.  This is due to having less relief on the training edge.  It seems to work great for sliders on the turf, that need some extra bounce in soft sand.

    I hope this helps!

  3. Thanks Chris! it helps a lot. I was just curious though, would having the 54 and 60 be too much of a gap in yardage?

    Hi Jason,

My mistake!  58.07 S or 58.08 M should have been in my response rather than 60.

    Enjoy the new wedges!

  5. ok thanks Chris! I have one more question for you...I just got a set of AP2s which I love but I notice I have lost about 10 yards compared to my old clubs which had 6.5 project x that were too stiff. I was wondering if the 6.0 project x shafts compared to the s300 stock shaft in the AP2s would help me gain those 10 yards back?

  6. Sorry about 15-20 yards and my irons balloon on me a lot too. Would the heavier shaft (like my x-hot) help me get the nice consistent ball flight back?

    Thanks Chris!

    Hi Jason,

That's a tough one!  In general, DG S300 will keep the flight down compared to PX.  I wouldn't be able to give you an accurate recommendation without seeing your ball flight.

I would recommend that you set up a fitting with a launch monitor before you make a shaft change.

    I hope this helps!

  8. ok no worries! I got it all figured out! thanks for all the help! It means a lot!

I have the exact same grinds as you're looking at

    50-F, 54-S 58-S

I take normal depth divots, about 6" length typically, and have had no issues with the wedges.

Around the greens, I would say I am sweeper, but with full shots I am definitely a digger.

I really struggled with the "M" grind in my SM4's which is why I went to the "S" grind.

If you take large divots in the bunker (sand displacement), then I would highly recommend these wedges for you.

Right now my distances are as follows (KBS S+ Shaft, standard lie loft length):

    50 - 128 yards

    54 - 117 yards

    58 - 107 yards

Those are at 90% of my max, and really piercing trajectory. I can pull them back as well, usually about 4-6 ft. using a Pro V1, but for the most part they simply hit and spin back 1-2 ft.

    Hope this helps.
