    Great Topic Bilal,

I would also have to agree with Ryan. I play a lot of golf as it is but there is always room for more golf. This year my New Years resolution would be to join a Club and get a membership. I'd like to push my game to a whole new level.

Looking forward to hearing what other people have in mind for there New Years resolution.

    Cheers Shawn

I finally joined a private club at the end of last season, so this year I would like to qualify and play well in my club championship. I'm also going to start doing some TPI training.

    Great topic!

For me, my goal is to compete in several professional events in 2013 and do my best to compete and contend in them.  It has been a while since I have played tournament golf, I can't wait to get back at it in 2013!!

I had always struggled with keeping my New Years resolutions until I picked on that was easy to keep...

Many years ago I made a New Years resolution - Not to make any more New Years resolutions :>)

That being said - I plan on working on my game this year by spending more time on the range not simply hitting balls, but actually working on specific parts of my swing during each practice opportunity. Practice with a purpose. I am told it works, so why not give it a try this year !

If anyone has specific tips on how to do that, I would be interested in hearing them.

    Happy 2013 to all.

    Darius

    • I'd like to play more (12 rounds this year was the most I've played in at least 5 years).

    • I'd like to get my handicap down to 4 (from 7).

    • I'd like to break 70.

Wow! Great new year resolutions TT members. My resolution is to become a scratch golfer by the end of this year. Right now i have a 5 handicap! Im really excited to complete this goal; with a lot of practice and playing, I know I can do it this year!!

Really great to hear from you guys!

Hope you all accomplish your goals this year.

    Cheers, Bilal M.

Wow...  Bilal - you are trying to go down to scratch from 5 and Trickey is hoping to go to a 4 from a 7. I look forward to hearing how things go for you guys. I found it was a lot easier to move from a 14 to a 10, and then it took a while to move from 10 to an 8. I simply cannot imagine dropping more than 1 or 2 handicap points per year at this point. I have found it so much tougher to knock 1 or two points off the handicap as I got lower. For me it is mostly the short game (inside 10 yds) but maybe once I get that licked it will drop faster.

Maybe we need a Topic at the end of the year where we all provide info on our indexes ie: What we were at the start of the year and what we ended up with. Maybe a short outline on what part of the game we needed to improve to accomplish it ???

Good luck and low scores in 2013 !

absolutely agree. It's so much harder to shave those last few strokes. I'm a 10 now, and was a 12 at the beginning- middle of the year. I focused on avoiding blow up holes and doing my best to- as my grandpa said "take my medicine" . Sometimes chipping out is the best option. Course management helps a lot, but short game and consistency are key.

    Hey Darius,

Yeah it seems difficult to become a scratch from a 5 hcp, but im really pushing this year! So hopefully i will be able to reach my goal! Also, getting a similar topic at the end of the year going, looks like a great idea so we can find out how all of our resolutions went! Good luck to you too!

    Cheers, Bilal M.

Shoot Under Par and get a more consistent swing.

    Hey Ryon...

I have been fortunate enough to shoot sub par twice, but at the end of the day that single GREAT score is only one of 20 in the handicap calculation, and then when it disappears the handicap index jumps back up by a full stroke or two. I went down from a 10 to an 8 in 2012 then with one GREAT score, my handicap dropped to a 6 and 20 games later I was back to an 8 again. Unfortunately those awesome rounds are few and far between...  Sigh !

My resolution is to get my 4 year old son to consistent level of ball striking  in the backyard net, that I can take him to a par 3 course for the first time.
