On wednesday afternoon I had a club fitting appointment with Chris Welton at the Eagles Nest driving Range. I arrived about 20 mins early and went down to the range and hit about a half bucket to warm up. After Chris introduced himself to me he asked me a few questions.. Like my handicap, how many rounds a week I play, how often I practice, and what my typical miss is. He then had me hit a series of balls with my current 6 iron (712 AP1) It did not take him long to figure out what adjustments I would need to correct my fade/slice. I ended up with 2 degree up, and .5" cut down. This left me with a nice slight fade which I want and miss hits that were not going to go 20 yards to the right lol.
Chris then asked me to hit a series of balls with my current driver, He asked where my normal miss was. My normal miss is a massive slice and sometimes when I aimed left to compensate for the slice it would go dead left. I hit alot of different combinations of drivers but when he got the combo just right we both knew it. I ended up with a 910 D2 10.5* Titleist Diamana 'ahina 72 Extra stiff saft, with .5" under length. I have never hit a driver as well as he had me hitting this one, I am so excited to recieve my driver which will be in about 7 days.
I told Chris I was in the market for a few wedges and he quickly helped my find the right degree and bounce angle. He brought me over to the bunker which I am horrible at, My first bunker shot went right into the wall of the bunker as I was nervous and this is a part of my game I never practice, Chris then told me a tip which made getting out of the bunker simple everytime. We both agreed on which wedges would best suit my swing style. So I ended up getting a 60, 56.11 and then he told me I could use my Ap1 wedge as its a 51 degree wedge. I may add another wedge at some point but im very happy with what ill have in the bag for now.
This was my experience with club fitting, I thought I would post this just incase anyone was hesitant on getting it done and was wondering what it was all about. I would 100% recommend Chris to anyone, He was easy to talk to, easy to understand and was just a really great guy. Go get fit for clubs! Titleist Rocks!
