I bought new AP1 712 at golftown in Kelowna in March.I hit about a 100 balls between the TM R11 and the new AP1 I decided on the Ap1 as it felt a little better. The guy at the store then told me I had to be fit for them, I then proceeded to hit about 10 balls off a lie board . The guy at the store then looked at the tape from the bottom of the club and told me I was a standard lie and the clubs were good stock. Does this sound like a proper fitting for an $849 set of irons?

Hate to break it to you but that was not a correct fitting. You can certainly tell if the lie is correct with lie tape and you can tell if shaft length is correct with face impact tape but probably the most important aspect of a fitting was totally overlooked...........Shaft.  Your ball speed and launch angle need to be determined in order to fit you into a proper shaft.

If you havent hit the clubs yet I would return them. Book an appointment with a titleist fitter. If you have already played with them I would still suggest you make an appointment with a fitter. The fitter will be able to tell you if you have the proper configuration of length, lie, shaft, grip, etc.

Good luck and enjoy the Titleists.

Just wanted to say Thank's to Mitch Dawson and Bob Jude for hooking me up for a proper club fitting with CPGA Professional Josh Fleming from Gallagher's Canyon in Kelowna. Thanks Josh for your expertise and giving me piece of mind with my new AP1 irons and a great experience.

  5. A hope and a prayer here to Mitch Dawson and the titleist crew.  After a year long wait I finally pulled the trigger on a set of 712 AP1's on Saturday.  Absolutely beautiful clubs, felt like Christmas in July!  Unfortunately, I had the same experience with Golftown in Etobicoke, took about 20 shots with the tape and told me that I was standard height, and lie and that the stock S300 shafts and set were my best bet.  Well, of course I hit the range the day after, and the day after that...love the clubs but after going back into the Vaughan Golftown I find out that in fact I should have gone through a full custom fitting for grip, shaft, lie, etc..., nothing I can do now as I've hit the 5,6,7, PW, at the range.  Love the clubs but I'll always have this nagging feeling I should have got them properly fitted.  If anyone at Titleist can help me out I would be eternally grateful!
