I was fortunate to of been invited to the Vokey Wedge Experience at Woburn early this year. I was really looking forward to it, when I arrived I was welcomed by one of the team who went on to explain what the order of the day would be. I was given a nice goody bag including balls.hat,TT bag tag, t shirt etc. I was introduced to my coach Paul and then off to the driving range. I had an idea of the lofts I was interested in but not sure about grind & bounce. We went through various variations on the range and then on to the chipping/bunker area. I must say it was a great experience and I learnt so much about the Vokey Wedges with my one to one with coach Paul his advise and expertise was brilliant I had every faith in his judgement, so much that I ordered a set of Vokey SM7's 50-8 F Grind, 54-10 S Grind, 58-10 S Grind. When they arrived the chrome finish looked so shiny & clean I was afraid to get them dirty. I booked a lesson with my local Pro on my short game with approach shots, chipping & bunker play. I can now honestly say that the confidence SM7's give me is amazing they are a dream to play with. I would highly recommend that if anyone gets the chance to have a proper fitting then don't hesitate it's definitely worth it.

From a recent fitting experience my daughter had, I was very surprised she came out with the grinds she did. She moved to S-grind in both her 54 and 58. She was previously in M-grind. Being able to try all the different grinds and bounce options is really the only way to really see the difference.

The wedge fitters are brilliant - they can diagnose very quickly based on your swing characteristics, turf interaction, and the sound the ball makes coming off the club face. While her fitting was not done by an exclusive wedge fitter, he still knew very much what he was doing and no doubt get her in the right set up. Her first two rounds with the new wedges were competitive career lows of 68 and then 67 and the wedges were a huge part of both.

Find someone that is either a Titleist or a Vokey fitter if at all possible. No one knows it better than these guys!

Ditto: "Find someone that is either a Titleist or a Vokey fitter if at all possible. No one knows it better than these guys!" These product specialists and trained fitters know what they are doing and your game will reflect the time spent. Having the correct grind, loft and bounce is critical. =)

I had a full bag fitting several years ago @ Titleist in Oceanside, CA. The wedge fitting made me understand why I needed more bounce. I’m a true believer in getting fit. Golf clubs are expensive enough for us all to be serious about what we buy. Titleist has great tools to help us as well.

The two biggest differences I noticed were the spin and the grind. Before I upgraded to sm7’s I played sm5’s which were great clubs but the grooves were worn down. My fitter showed me trackman data that said my gap wedge was spinning at the rate of a 5 iron. Obviously not very good for holding greens! Once I got into the sm7 all of that changed and I had so much more control for approach shots. Lastly, I played the K grind for my 60 degree which was a great club in the bunker but didn’t fit my game right around the greens. My fitter introduced me to the D grind which gave me the same forgiveness in the bunker but also allowed me to manipulate the face more around the greens. Overall, my wedge fitting experience changed my short game!

Two years ago I was fortunate enough to get a wedge fitting at Titleist-Manchester Lane. My brother, who was able to come with me, described it best when he said “that was something you should have to win in a contest to experience, not just be able to call up and schedule yourself.”
I worked with Karen Gray (she was amazing!) for the wedge fitting. She started by asking me about my game and my goals, then measured lofts on my iron set to begin gapping into wedges. I hit my lowest desired iron (PW) to get yardage on the range and Trackman, then we started the process of testing the Vokey wedges for distance gapping. We arrived at 52,56,60 in S300 AMT shaft for the 52, and S200 shafts for the 56 and 60 (they test shaft fit as well).
Next, Karen inspected and evaluated my delivery into the ball and turf, along with divots to start testing different grinds. Based on turf interaction and our discussion on using certain wedges as specialized tools (bunker, flop shots, etc) we arrived at F grind with 12 bounce on 52, and M grind with 8 degree bounce for 56 and 60.
We tested the grinds and different shots on a separate wedge range from bunker to rough chips and flops, to 50 and 60 yard partial swings into the green. Totally blew me away the impact of the grinds and their effect on consistency and versatility. I was no longer blading or hitting fat shots (at least not nearly as much!).
I went into that fitting as a 16 handicap, after one season I was down to a 10. Now I’m at a 7.5 GHIN, and I attribute most of that to this fitting.

I was invited to TPI in early February along with seven other gentlemen and met with a cadre of Titleist reps and Bob Vokey, Aaron Dill, Braedon Armstrong, Travis Ordonez, and Mike Gibson acting as our host. As invitees we spent the whole day in two groups doing up and down contests that were fun and relaxing and wedge and iron fittings with the best results I've had in explaining and steering me towards more correct clubs for my type of swing. Aaron Dill fitted me for 46-10, 50-12, and 54-14 all in F grinds along with a 58-08D. Those match up with the 718 AP2'S and a 818H2 that Travis Ordonez fitted during a Titleist Thursday. The results are that I came away with the best wedges for me because of Aaron's persistence and knowledge, they're longer straighter and easier to play without making perfect swings, if you like those kinds of things. The people at Titleist are the best because they are the best, take advantage of any chance you have to work with them and enjoy the results.
